1st Quarter: Dancing Around the World Get ready for your feet to tour the globe. As students learn the steps and rhythm patterns of dances from many countries, they will develop such skills as basic timing and coordination. Students will keep a dance passport to document countries we visit through dance and will share their favorite dances in a performance during the November Showcase Day.
2nd Quarter: Dance Connections In this class, students will explore many connections that exist between dance and other subject areas, as well as connections between dance and other art forms. Through a series of engaging in-class projects, students will gain an understanding of these connections and will demonstrate the relationships they discover in performance.
3rd Quarter: When I Dance I . . . . . .and each dancer fills in the blank. Students will express their ideas and feelings in dance as they explore the basic elements of movement: time, space, energy, and body. The focus will be on developing the natural creative skills of each child and heightening kinesthetic and spatial awareness. Students will document activities in class with drawings and digital recording.
4th Quarter: Musical Theatre Production Students in this class will team with the drama and music students to perform a musical play. This class will take the students through the creative process of preparing a musical theatre production and will give them experiences on stage through the elements of singing, acting and dancing. The premier will be during the May Showcase Night.
